The State of Mental Health for Children and Adolescents: A Review
DESCRIPTION:
It is currently estimated that about 20% of all children ages 0-18 have a mental health diagnosis, though this has steadily risen since the COVID-19 pandemic began. These diagnoses can come from primary care providers, therapists, schools and psychological testing. This webinar will provide information about mental health diagnosis and prevalence, services and treatments for mental health disorders and current barriers to treatment. Interpreters play an integral role in providing high quality care for children and adolescents who have mental health concerns. Interpreters are essential to gathering vital information to assist therapists in assessing for safety, presenting concerns and treatment planning. We will discuss the unique challenges of providing services to patient populations who struggle to understand the severity of mental health needs and care due to cultural and language barriers and the important collaborative role interpreters have in these situations. We will discuss the continuum of mental health care and have an opportunity to answer questions.
