Webinar: Do You Want to be a Subtitler?

DESCRIPTION:

The entertainment industry is increasingly looking for translators who can work with subtitles. Learn how to start on this new adventure in translation and hear two experts share tips and suggestions. Also improve your interpreting skills, especially for video and simultaneous interpreting, by learning the important features that both subtitling and interpreting share.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the difference between subtitling and dubbing, which are the two approaches used in entertainment, as they share the same linguistic and extralinguistic competences and semiotic systems with interpreting. Additionally, dubbing shares with interpreting the types of constraints involved in decoding the message.
  • Learn the main skills for subtitling –some of which are shared with interpreting– and are: text reduction, paraphrasing, adaptation, linguistic cohesion and coherence to correctly and accurately apply them to video interpreting or simultaneous interpretation.
  • Tips and tricks on how to get your foot in the door of audiovisual translations.
  • The differences between audiovisual translations and document translations.
